YouTube Brand Account: Setup & Permission Management

Tutorial A YouTube Brand Account allows businesses and creators to name their channel independently from their personal Google profile and safely delegate administrative permissions to multiple team members.

Part 1: Creating Your Brand Account

  1. Sign In to Google Go to YouTube.com and sign in with the master Google account you intend to use as the Primary Owner.

  2. Access Channel Settings You can head straight to your YouTube Account Settings page, or click your profile picture in the top-right corner, select Settings, and click Add or manage your channel(s).

  3. Initialize Channel Creation Go directly to the YouTube Channel Switcher page and click the large Create a channel button. This action automatically triggers the setup of a Brand Account behind the scenes.

  4. Name Your Brand Enter your desired channel name, check the box confirming you understand you are creating a new Google account with its own settings, and click Create.

Part 2: Switching to Brand Account Permissions

By default, YouTube routes new channel permissions through YouTube Studio. To utilize the robust, direct user delegation found in Google’s corporate Brand Account settings (which allows for transferring full ownership), you must opt out of standard Studio permissions.

  1. Open YouTube Studio Navigate to the YouTube Studio Dashboard and ensure you are switched over to your newly created brand channel profile.

  2. Open Settings Dashboard Locate the sidebar on the left side of your screen, scroll toward the bottom, and click the Settings gear icon.

  3. Select Permissions Tab Inside the Settings pop-up menu, click on Permissions in the left-hand column list.

  4. Opt Out of Studio Roles Look for the option labeled “Opt out of permissions in YouTube Studio” and click it.

IMPORTANT WARNING: Choosing this will instantly revoke access for any users previously invited inside YouTube Studio. You will need to re-add them via the Google Brand Account panel.

  5. Save and Finish Click Save or Confirm to lock in the configuration changes.

Part 3: Managing Users Post-Opt-Out

Now that you have opted out of Studio permissions, you will manage managers directly from Google’s master platform:

  • Go back to your main YouTube Settings page.
  • Click the Add or remove manager(s) link.
  • Click the blue Manage Permissions button.
  • Use the Invite Users icon at the top right to safely add emails and assign roles like Owner or Manager.
